Fender Coronado II Antigua 1967
Fees & taxes
This rare 1967 Fender Coronado II features the iconic Antigua finish, one of the most distinctive color finishes in Fender's history.
The Fender Coronado was introduced in 1966 as Fender's answer to the popular hollow-body models from competitors. The guitar was designed by Roger Rossmeisl, known for his work at Rickenbacker, which explains the Coronado's unique aesthetic. What makes this Coronado II extra special is the rare Antigua finish, a mysterious green-black color scheme originally developed to salvage damaged instruments, but which quickly became an exclusive finish applied to only a handful of models.
Despite its respectable age of nearly 60 years, this Coronado II is in very good condition. The characteristic Antigua finish, where the edges gradually transition from black to a green tint, has been well preserved and shows various signs of wear that only enhance the vintage charm. The original cream binding and black/white purfling of the body are still intact, but the neck binding has a few small tears. The Antigua pickguard is also still intact, but is warped. The bridge has been replaced, but the original is included.
The sound of this Coronado II is just as distinctive as its appearance. The two DeArmond single coil pickups offer a clear, transparent tone with a vintage character that you won't easily find in modern instruments. The laminated maple construction gives the guitar a unique resonance and sustain, while the C-shaped maple neck with its comfortable 7.25" radius rosewood fingerboard ensures very pleasant playability. The Grover Rotomatic tuners with mother-of-pearl knobs are a luxurious addition that give the guitar an elegant look and stand out even more thanks to their F-logo.
This special guitar is a beautiful piece of music history and a must-have for collectors of rare Fender instruments or musicians looking for a characterful vintage sound in a unique package!
